What are the advantages of thermoformed, tray and pouch packaging? |
|
|
Thermoformed pack:
- High output
- Low material costs
- Few personnel required
- High degree of automation
Tray:
- Packs with visual appeal
- Time-consuming filling operations are no problem
- Aluminium and ovenable trays are suitable

Does Multivac carry out validation of packaging machines? |
|
|
Yes. Multivac chamber machines, rollstock machines and traysealers
are validated on request. Please choose the required validation service
from our list (validation link). We can send you our information leaflet
or sample documentation on request. We recommend having the
validation process carried out on the new machine at the Multivac factory.
This is simpler than in the production environment. |

How fast can one package with a chamber machine? |
|
|
Most Multivac chamber machines operate at a speed of 2 to 3 cycles
per minute. The speed depends on
- the product (dry, containing water, cold, warm)
- the free chamber volume
- the vacuum required
- whether an inert gas atmosphere is necessary
- the pouch material
- the size of the vacuum pump.
Depending on the type of machine and the pouch design, several
pouches can be sealed at the same time per cycle. In the case of
double-chamber machines, you load one chamber with pouches,
while sealing is being carried out in the other chamber.

| 4. |
Can Multivac chamber machines remove excess pouch material automatically? |
|
|
Most Multivac chamber machines can be equipped with a seal bar
for double-seam sever sealing: parallel to the closure seam, a second
seam removes the excess pouch material; the pouch is given a smooth, hermetic seal where the material is removed. This not only looks good;
it has a positive impact on hygiene too. Perforation or cutting knives
are possible for large packs.

Can hot products containing water be packaged on a chamber machine?
|
|
|
When hot products containing water are being packaged, keep in mind that large amounts of steam begin generating at less than 100° C when the ambient pressure level is reduced.
Meal components can be packaged in a hot, aseptic condition with mineral glass windows, a tilted insert with a magnetic support, quick vacuum stop
and throttled evacuation.

Can the pump of the chamber machine be vented outside a packaging room?
|
|
|
Yes. Multivac supplies configurations with discharge air collection facilities
for packaging in clean rooms.
|
| 7. |
Can my pouch be embossed with a batch code or other information on a chamber machine? |
|
|
Yes. A seal bar printing ribbon system is available as an optional extra. |

From what packaging volume upwards is it worth using an automatic thermoforming machine?
|
|
|
This depends very much on your operations. If you change pack sizes frequently, for example, a packaging line with Multivac chamber machines
is ideal for you. Thermoformed packagings is worthwhile when it can be
expected that the labor expense of two or more employees will be saved. Talk to your Multivac sales consultant; he will be delighted to make the calculations for your particular case.

|
What packaging materials are suitable for automatic thermoforming machines?
|
|
|
The packaging materials have to meet the following basic requirements:
- They need to be heatsealable.
- They need to be formable and cuttable.
- The base film thickness may not exceed 1 500 µ.
- The lid film thickness may not exceed 300 µ.
- Some materials, like sterilizable PP or ovenable C-PET require
special machine equipment, careful settings and extended process times.
You are generally better off with Multivac traysealers here.
